ECHOES OF NATURE

ECOLOGICAL + CULTURAL ARCHIVE | CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

ARCH 3520 | Fluid Studio | Clemson University
Clemson Design Center | Charleston
Professor Schuyler Clogston | Spring 2024
Nestled within the Wagener Terrace neighborhood, Echoes of
Nature educates its users about a portion of Charleston, South
Carolina’s historical and cultural significance. Focused mainly
on ecology and flood mitigation strategies, Echoes of Nature
provides users with an immersive experience of native plantings
and archival research on Charleston’s ecology. Echoes of
Nature is a conceptual ecological and cultural archival library.
The exterior organic ramp leads directly into the library area, with areas for private and collaborative study spaces. This first
floor also leads to a double-height gallery and amphitheaterstyle
seating area, allowing for small shows and exhibitions.
The second floor of the design is a much quieter area, housing
private collections, archives, and office spaces. Echoes of
Nature is meant to be a place where users get to experience,
learn, and reflect, about the ecology and culture of Charleston.
